Autumn in Korea lasts from the end of September to mid-November.Mild days and clear weather make the autumn months the most pleasant time of the year. The temperature varies greatly from day to night. The mountains, when decorated with the vivid golden and red autumnal leaves under the clear blue sky, make for a magnificent spectacle. The best autumnal travel destinations in Korea are the mountains with their brightly colored foliage. The skies turn cobalt blue which creates a beautiful contrast with the deep crimson color of the leaves.Although the leaves change color at slightly different times from year to year depending on temperature, sunlight, and humidity levels, the change usually beings in northern areas like Mt.Seorak and moves southward to Mt.Neajangsan.
In autumn, leaves in Korea first begin to change around SeoraksanMountain, and from there spread south until they reach NaejangsanMountain, which is demonstrates the most vivid fall foliage in all of Korea. The crimson beauty of Naejangsan is the second most sought after mountain in the fall season following Seoraksan. If you haven’t seen the autumn leaves at Narjangsan, you haven’t yet seen a real Korean autumn. During the peak season, the trees of the mountain are covered with vivid red, brown, and yellows. After the leaves fall from the tree they create a soft crimson carpet that makes people feel like they are walking in heaven.
Korean ginseng is a medicinal plant reported to have wondrous palliative powers. The pharmacology book, which is the oldest in the Orient, said that Korean ginseng has beneficial effects on the eyes, tranquilization and setting the heartbeat at ease. Korean ginseng has active constituents called “Ginsenosides,” and “Acidic Polysaccharides,” which boost the immune system and “Polyacetylene,” helps prevent cancer. Red Ginseng, known in Korean as “Hongsam,” is ginseng that has undergone a process of repeated steaming and drying, which causes the ginseng to have higher quality Ginsenosides. The Red Ginseng treatments use not only red ginseng, but other Oriental medicinal herbs, as well as the principles of yin and yang and the five natural elements to give spa-goers an indulgent experience that relaxes both the mind and body.
